The short version
MetaPeek reads the page you are looking at, shows you what it found, and sends it nowhere. There is no server, no account, no analytics and no storage.
MetaPeek is free: every feature, for everyone. There is no payment, no paid tier, no licence key and no account, and no email address is asked for or collected. Nothing about you is collected at all — not a name, not an email address, not a payment detail.
What it handles, stated plainly because Google requires it to be: when you click the icon, MetaPeek reads that page’s markup, its visible text and its address. Google’s Chrome Web Store rules count that as handling “website content” and require it to be disclosed even though it never leaves your machine — their user-data FAQ says so in as many words, and this policy says it here rather than relying on a narrower reading of the word “collect”. The reading happens inside your browser, it is shown to you in the popup, it is never transmitted, it is never written to disk, and it exists only for as long as the popup is open. Close the popup and it is gone. The single exception is the one you make yourself: pressing “Copy report” puts the report on your own clipboard, for you to paste wherever you choose.
What the extension does with page data
When you click the MetaPeek icon (or press its keyboard shortcut), it reads the page you are currently looking at — the title, meta tags, headings, images, links, Open Graph and Twitter tags, structured data, hreflang tags and the visible text — and shows you what it found in the popup. That reading happens inside your browser and goes no further. Nothing about the page, its address, or what was found on it is transmitted or stored anywhere.
If you press "Copy report", the report is placed on your own clipboard and nowhere else.
The extension makes no network requests at all.
The extension does not read any page until you invoke it, and it only ever reads the tab you are on.
What is stored, and where
Nothing. The extension keeps no settings and no history. Close the popup and the report is gone.
What we never do
- We do not transmit, sell, or share any personal or browsing data — nor any page data. Nothing is sent anywhere by this extension, ever.
- We do not keep anything after the popup closes, so there is nothing to hand over, lose or be asked for later.
- We do not use analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or advertising.
- We do not use anything read from a page for any purpose other than showing you the report you asked for.
Permissions, and why each one exists
- activeTab — to read the tab you are on, only after you click.
- scripting — to run the analysis code on that tab. It reads the page as your browser has rendered it, including anything the page's own JavaScript added, and never changes the page.
No host permissions are requested. There is no background page.
Changes
MetaPeek is free and there is no plan to charge for it yet. If that ever changes — a paid version with a licence key would mean one request to the payment provider to check the key, and the key and the buyer's email address kept in your browser's extension storage — this page will be updated before the change ships, and the store listing's data disclosures will be updated with it.
